Kalamkari — literally ‘pen work’ — is the centuries-old craft of drawing and dyeing cloth by hand in Andhra Pradesh, using only natural dyes from roots, leaves and iron. Our design gathers its favourite motifs: a flowering tree of life, strutting peacocks and a richly dressed elephant in soft madder red, indigo and mustard. A puzzle that smells of temples and old cotton.
